Thrift Til You Drop
These days clothing continues to get more and more expensive. Prices go up and quality goes down. We, as consumers, find it incredibly hard to find nice clothes for reasonable prices without breaking the bank. This is why I recommend thrifting wherever and whenever you can.
You can thrift basically anything from clothes, shoes and jewelry to furniture, decorations and even electronics. The main thing most people, including me, thrift is clothing. Thrift stores usually have racks on racks full of clothes that are under $10 that go completely overlooked because no one wants to take the time to find something they like. As a frequent thrifter, I can attest that it can be really hard to find clothes that not only fit you, but seem lightly used. However, if you have the time to browse a little I guarantee you'll find an outfit that you'll love that's never even been worn before. There are so many hidden gems squished between a top that looks like your grandmother's curtains and a neon green skirt, even though I think you can still style those kinds of items.
The biggest challenge for first time thrifters is usually finding a thrift store that they like. Most people think goodwill is the only place they can go to find cheap clothes, p.s. it's not! It's the most widely known option, but definitely not the only one. Finding a store that you like comes down to trial and error, but you'll most likely find something at any store you go to if you search around for long enough.
In my experience, you don't have to know the vision of what kind of outfit or aesthetic you're looking for when you go thrifting. The times when I've gone in with the mindset of just browsing for anything that catches my eye, I've found the most amount of pieces because I wasn't limiting myself to a particular style. You usually find what you're looking for when you're not actively looking for it.
Here are some pieces I've thrifted over the years:
I love thrifting! I think it's the perfect way to find unique pieces that you really tailor to your own style. One of my favorite places to thrift is Volunteers of America because they do a half off day the last Tuesday of every month.
ReplyDeleteYes, I completely agree with you! As a college girlie who loves clothes shopping, I have found so many items without breaking the bank! Sometimes, you have to do a little searching, and you may not be successful at every thrift store, but that's half the fun! Getting to go through various clothes until you find that one item that you love makes it all so worth it!
