The Rise And Fall Of Vlogging

Rise of Vlogging: Vlogging took over the internet for a combination of reasons, all of which came together to create a perfect storm of accessibility, personality-driven content, and the rise of YouTube that made it easy for anyone to share their lives.  Popularity Boom Vlogging saw a huge spike in the 2010s, which was mainly due to the success of YouTube as a platform. The invention of smartphones also gave viewers easier access to the app and simultaneously made filming content less challenging. Creators like Casey Neistat and David Dobrik gained massive followings by documenting their lives, traveling, and even featuring A-List celebrities in their videos. The main reason this type of content was so popular is because it showed the relatability of the people we followed and gave us a glimpse into their daily lives. It showed us the lives we all wanted to live. Influence As creators became more successful, vlogging became commercialized. Brands partnered with influencers for...

Calling All Readers, It's Time To Talk Books

Image
In all my nineteen years of living, I have never considered myself an avid reader until just about a year ago when my roommate decided to give me a fantasy book to read called Furyborn. In short, my life was changed. After that, I read that whole series and went on to the trilogies of Caraval, Once Upon A Broken Heart, and Fourth Wing. I think it's pretty clear at this point that my favorite genre is fantasy because let's be honest, who wouldn't want to read about worlds that have magical kingdoms with faerie guards who ride on dragons and an assassin love interest? Okay, maybe not everyone, but I personally love it. I used to only read romance before I got into fantasy, but now looking back at some of the books I've read, they're just so two dimensional and, in my opinion, lack the depth and world building that fantasy excels at. I'm looking at you Icebreaker...if you know you know. I also just prefer when the main character has other goals to achieve other tha...

Social Media Marketing: Friend or Foe?

In today’s digital age, social media has become an integral part of daily life, shaping how we communicate, share information, and interact with the world around us. Social media has essentially transformed the way we connect and consume content. Chapter one of Essentials of Social Media Marketing shows us that there are many advantages in utilizing social media specifically for advertising brands and companies, but to that same degree, there are also disadvantages within social media.  The biggest advantages that stood out to me in the chapter were: the increase in brand exposure to larger audiences, improves communication between customers and employees, and increases sales and revenue.  In my personal opinion, the aspect most consumers rely on and value is  authenticity and transparency from the brands they interact with in order to build trust. Those are things that make people want to buy from you. I think using social media makes it so much easier for brands to esta...

Here We Go Again: Second Semester

Image
I just completed my first week back at Ohio Northern University and let's just say, the start of my second semester hasn't been entirely graceful. I'm really glad to be back, but I think I got a little too used to being home and doing literally nothing all day. I've realized after this first week, that I have completely overloaded my schedule and it will probably only get worse. One thing I'm really excited about though is that I started rehearsals for the Spring play we're putting on in February! The only sucky thing about that is I'm in rehearsals from 6pm to 10pm almost everyday of the week (besides Sunday) so finding time to do school work should be super fun...full sarcasm.  An accurate depiction of me after the first week of classes and rehearsals: I am definitely Type A so my planner is obviously updated with everything going on in my life, which has been super helpful, but doesn't lessen the stress in any way. This one week has felt like four we...
